Fuck origin of word
Did the word 'fuck' originate as an acronym of the phrase 'for unlawful carnal knowledge'?
Etymology. The Oxford English Dictionary states that the ultimate etymology is uncertain, but that the word is "probably cognate" with a number of Germanic words with meanings involving striking, rubbing, and having sex or is derivative of the Old French word that meant "to fuck".
12 Feb One origin story for fuck is that it comes from when sex was outlawed unless it was permitted explicitly by the king, so people who were legally banging had Fornication Under Consent of the King on their doors, or: F.U.C.K. But obviously that's wrong. As are all of the other nonsensical acronyms floating.
Description:Problems with such theories include a distribution that suggests a North-Sea Germanic areal form rather than an inherited one; the murkiness of the phonetic relations; and the fact that no alleged cognate outside Germanic has sexual connotations. The last two letters of the word were, I believe, contracted from the words Carnal Knowledge. The code can easily be broken to read Non sunt in coeli, quia fvccant vvivys of heli. The line that contains fuck reads Non sunt in coeli, quia gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk. The word seems from the start to have been regarded as unacceptable in polite company.
